Watrec Ltd. signed a co-operation agreement with Metso Automation
27.9.2009

Metso Automation will deliver automation system and instrumentation for a new biogas plant to be operated by VamBio Oy. The plant will produce renewable bioenergy from biodegradable waste and side products. Plant operation is planned to be started up in April 2010.  The capacity of the VamBio biogas plant will be 60 000 tn annually.

Watrec Ltd. has a turn-key contract of the construction of the VamBio plant in Vampula, Finland. Core areas of expertise of Watrec Ltd are biogas technology, wastewater and process water treatment, and environmental and energy consultancy services. United Project Group will supply the electrical instrumentation and automation systems for the project. The delivery will include all electrical systems for the building and the processes, the field equipment and other instrumentation, and a comprehensive automation system delivery for a PROFIBUS fieldbus environment.

Automation will be based on the Metso DNA C20 automation system and Endress+Hauser field instrumentation. Almost all the electrically operated drives will use Vacon AC drives. The project delivery will enable extremely accurate process control of the highest standard that can optimize the plant’s performance.

The delivery also includes high-level reporting and the transfer of alarm reports via GSM communications to remote devices, e.g. mobile phones. In addition, the system will be equipped with a FieldAssessor condition monitoring system integrated into the automation system and covering the field automation.

Waste to energy

After completion, the VamBio biogas plant will produce renewable bioenergy from biodegradable waste and byproducts from food industry, agriculture and communities. From biogas can be produced electricity, heat and vehicle fuel.

At VamBio’s biogas plant the special focus will be on local utilization of the energy. This increases plants efficiency, improves productions profitability and enhances even more ecological value of the biogas plant.
